Mechanism Of Action Sodium Citrate is metabolised to sodium bicarbonate after absorption, resulting in a systemic alkalinization. Bicarbonate ions are excreted in the urine that is rendered alkaline, with accompanying diuresis. The alkalinization of urine leads to dissolution of lithiasis, crystalline and weakly acid drugs.
INDICATIONS URALINE FORT is effective alkalinizing agent. They are useful in those conditions where long-term maintenance of an alkaline urine is desirable. Particularly, in the diuretic treatment of lithiasis and toxic accumulation of weakly acid drugs. They are also used in the alleviation of chronic metabolic acidosis. URALINE and URALINE FORT provides relief from painful burning symptoms resulting from mild urinary tract infections, such as cystitis and renal tubular infections. URALINE FORT neutralizes gastric hydrochloric acid quickly and effectively, besides it stimulates the intestines movement and helps the digestion. The effervescent powder URALINE FORT has a highly pleasant taste, and it is tolerable even when administered for long periods
CONTRAINDICATIONS URALINE FORT should not be used in patients with severe renal impairment, and patients on sodium-restricted diets.
Side EFFECTS URALINE FORT are usually well tolerated. However, caution should be exercised in certain patients with abnormal renal mechanism to avoid metabolic alkalosis, especially in the presence of hypocalcaemia.
WARNINGS URALINE FORT should be used with caution in patients with low urinary output. Besides, it should be used after meals in order to avoid saline laxative effects. Sodium salts should be used cautiously in patients with cardiac failure, hypertension, impaired renal function peripheral and pulmonary edema and toxemia of pregnancy.
