Mechanism Of Action Magnesia Kanawati chewable tablets have a neutralising effect on hydrochloric acid in the gastric secretion. They act by increasing the gastric pH, and consequently they diminish the activity of pepsin in the gastric secretion. In larger doses Magnesia Kanawati acts as an osmotic laxative (saline laxative). It causes retention of fluids in the bowel
INDICATIONS Magnesium hydroxide is used as an antacid in doses up to 2 g daily, and as a laxative in doses up to 5 g daily.
CONTRAINDICATIONS None
Side EFFECTS Magnesia tablets may cause diarrhea. Habitual use as a laxative may result in dependance upon it
WARNINGS The recommended daily dose, except under the advice and supervision of a physician, should not be exceeded and the maximum dosage of this product should not be used for more than 2 weeks. Patients with Kidney failure should not use this product, because it leads to hypermagnesaemia, which may include the following symptoms: nausea and vomiting, skin flushing, hypotension, drowsiness, muscle weakness, cardiac arrhythmias, respiratory depression, and cardiac arrest. Drug % Food Interactions: The use of antacids, in general, may interfere with some other drugs absorbance.
DRUG INTERACTIONS Magnesia Kanawti chewable tablets are given as an antacid, as directed by the physician or as the following: -Adults: 2-4 tablets up to 2-4 times a day. -Children (7-14 years old): I tablet up to 4 times a day. As a laxative Magnesia Kanawati chewable tablets are given in the Following dosage: -Adults: 6-8 tablets, to be chewed thoroughly, with a glass of water before bedtime. -Children (7-14 years old): 2-4 tablets, to be chewed thoroughly, with a glass of water before bedtime.
