Mechanism Of Action | Cynara (Artichocke leaves) fluid extract contains the active ingredient Cynarine, which is known to have diuretic and choleretic effects. There is evidence that Cynarine lowers cholesterol level in blood, protects the liver, and helps in excreting toxic materials (particularly nitrogen compounds ) from the body. Cynarine has shown highly specific properties as a cholagogue (increases bile production in the liver), choleretic (increases the flow of bile from the gallbladder), and choliokinetic (increases the contractive power of the bile duct). Artichoke has been used in traditional medicine for centuries as a specific liver and gallbladder remedy as well as a snake bite remedy. It's liver detoxifying and protective properties were the first to come to the attention of researchers in 1966 and investigations are still being conducted on artichoke leaf's beneficial pharmacologic effects on liver function as well as gall bladder function. Artichoke has demonstrated lipid-producing and anticholesterolemic action by decreasing the rate of cholesterol synthesis in the liver and by mobilizing fat stores from the liver and other tissues such as white adipose tissue. In addition to cholesterol, other blood fats such as triglycerides are thought to be reduced through the use of artichoke. It's current uses in natural medicine include its use for all types of liver and gallbladder disorders, for the prevention of gallstones, liver diseases including those related to alcoholism, dyspepsia, anemia, arteriosclerosis, diabetes, high cholesterol, and kidney disease. Boldo leaves fluid extract contains the major alkaloid which is called boldine and it is believed to be responsible for the choleretic, laxative, and diuretic actions. It also contains the glycoside boldoglucine, which has diuretic and choleretic effects, as well as an effect on gall-stones. Boldo has been used historically as a treatment for liver disease is as well as gallstones. The rhubarb flubarb fluid extract contains anthraquinone derivatives such as chrysophanic acid (chrysophanol),emodin, aloe-emodin, and rhein, with their O-glycosides. It also contains tannins. Rhubarb root has a purgative action for use in the treatment of constipation, but also has an astringent effect following this. It therefore has a truly cleansing action upon the gut, removing debris and then astringing with antiseptic properties as well. Small doses benefits as tonic hepatic, and large doses can be cathartic |
